Position TitleSupply Quality Engineer

SummaryPRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for mitigating risk and lowering costs by developing the global supply chain, developing new suppliers, and/or enhancing relationships with current sources of supply. Work closely with the Quality and Engineering Departments to qualify new sources and materials, as well as quickly resolve supplier material discrepancies. Monitor and improve supplier performance. Team with Purchasing and Planning personnel to understand demand and assist in supply chain deficiencies. Work with Engineering for BoM and drawing accuracy and assist with new product development sourcing and supplier selection. Commit to enhancing the overall supply-chain to guarantee it provides the best product, on-time, with the best quality, at the lowest landed cost.

WORKING PROCEDURES:

• Identify, evaluate, manage, and develop effective value-adding relationships with strategic suppliers, through frequent contact and formal assessments to maintain a competitive, innovative, and reliable supply base. Travel required.
• Lead negotiations with suppliers to develop agreements on pricing, service, and qualification requirements.
• Understand, communicate, and develop plans to take advantage of, or prevent/mitigate risks from supply base and global market conditions and forces.
• Work with IT, Engineers, and other technical employees to define, develop, and implement effective information tools and reports to improve productivity and accuracy of external supplier management.
• Execute vendor qualifications via PPaP and other qualifying methods.
• Play a central role in assessing supplier quality and ensuring that products received are free of defects.
• Assist the Quality group with supplier audits and evaluation for continuous improvement and supplier selection.
• Monitor supplier performance and aggressively pursue those sources that are not performing adequately and actively lead programs to improve and enhance supplier performance.
• Lead the global supply-chain in cost productivity projects to meet/exceed corporate objectives. Include all functional groups necessary to evaluate drawings, perform should-cost analysis, and other necessary tools to identify cost reduction opportunities and correct any deficiencies with drawings and other required resources to allow effective sourcing.
• Plane, execute, and report Purchase Price Variance (PPV).
• Develop and disseminate product offerings, technological developments, market knowledge, and market trends and events that relate to commodities, raw materials, currency, and other key indices.
• Perform financial analysis related to sourcing decisions and supplier management.
• Monitor purchasing activity, including all materials, supplies, and services, both direct and indirect, to ensure compliance with supplier agreements and that best pricing is achieved.
• Interface and maintain excellent relationships with all Powerex departments and teams. Participate in continuous improvement and new product development activities that may include being part of a multi-functional group.
• Identify and escalate problems, risks, and opportunities to senior leaders and functional area managers.
• Maintain compliance with all Powerex policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Perform other assigned duties.

SCOPE, PURPOSE AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Frequent contact with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and administrative personnel, as well as others.
Frequent interaction with existing and potential sources of supply.
Occasional customer contact.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Limited but could be expended as needed.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Engineering in any of the disciplines-Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Materials, Industrial or Semiconductors, with a strong business and financial acumen. Graduate level preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience with product and supplier development, supplier audits, purchasing functions.
